In 1982, the Vietnam Memorial was dedicated in Washington.  Disney opened Epcot Center in Florida.  Late Night with David Letterman debuted on television.  Atari issued the games "Defender" and "Centipede".   E.T. was a huge success on the big screen and E.T.'s favorite candy, Reese's Pieces, saw a boost in sales.  (Mars, Incorporated was asked for permission to use M&M's in the movie, but they turned the offer down!)   Our knowledge was tested with the new game Trivial Pursuit.  USA Today was the newest paper at the news stand, and the Pulitzer Prize went to Alice Walker for "The Color Purple".  The Smurfs were popular in the Saturday morning cartoon lineup.  On the radio we first heard songs from Bryan Adams, Duran Duran and Huey Lewis & The News.  Michael Jackson released the album "Thriller".
