In 1988, comedienne Roseanne got her own television series.  Prescriptions were first written for the anti-depressant Prozac.  Sony Bono was elected the Mayor of Palm Springs, California.  The price of a postage stamp rose from 22¢ to 25¢.  The 53 year old tradition of night baseball came to an end at Wrigley Field.  Fire consumed over 1 million acres of Yellowstone National Park.  Rogaine was released.  Corporate sponsorships of music tours was the thing to do in 1988 with Pepsi backing Madonna, Diet Coke backing George Michael, Budweiser behind the Stones, and Eric Clapton was sponsored by Michelob.   The Cars broke up.  After 18 years as host of American Top 40, Casey Kasem left to host a similar show for Westwood One Radio Network. His replacement was Shadoe Stevens of TV's Hollywood Squares.  Roy Orbison passed away after a heart attack at the age of 52.  Song of the Year went to "Don't Worry, Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin.
